Tara Wallace Talks Peter Gunz Drama, And Dishes On Her Dating Life
Not since Stevie J, Mimi Faust, and Joseline Hernandez has there been a messier love triangle than that of Peter Gunz, Amina Buddafly, and Tara Wallace on Love & Hip-Hop: NY. Although Peter and Tara were together for thirteen years and share two children, the washed up 40-something “Déjà Vu (Uptown Baby)” rapper did the unforgiveable by marrying Amina, an aspiring singer whom he manages, behind Tara’s back.
Although mistakes were made by all three parties throughout the current season of the hit VH1 reality series, I’m still unapologetically Team Tara, and I recently got the chance to talk to her about the drama on the show and where she goes from here. Check out highlights from our chat below.
ON HER RELATIONSHIP WITH PETER BEFORE LOVE & HIP-HOP:
“Before the show, we were functioning as a family. We definitely had our issues; it was definitely things that I was fussing about, but nowhere near us not being together. Whatever the issues were, I kinda thought he was going through something, and that I needed to back off sometimes, or maybe I was being too hard on him, so we weren’t in the best of places, but I had no idea the severity of where we were.”
ON HER AND PETER’S CHILDREN NOT KNOWING THAT THEY’RE NO LONGER TOGETHER:
“Our children don’t know exactly what’s going on. Our children don’t understand that we’re going through a breakup, so I do bite a bit of the humble pie for the sake of our kids so that we don’t disturb the functionality of the household. But I’m moving to another apartment in the next couple of weeks, and we will not obviously be moving together, so they will know at some point. Very soon I will have to tackle and address this issue with my boys.”
ON IF SHE’S DATING:
“I’m not dating, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s so funny because I do want to detox from this, and I do want to take the appropriate time it takes to heal, and sometimes, it takes longer than others. But sometimes I do believe, and I’m a huge Iyanla Vanzant fan, in ‘in the meantime’ relationships. Sometimes I think those are important, but it still has to be worth your time. You know I’m 37, and I don’t have time to waste, I don’t have time to lose, so whatever person I meet, I need that person to know who they are and understand who I am, and let’s build from there whether it’s a friendship and we become buddies for the rest of our lives, or we proceed into a relationship. I’m excited about the person that I’m going to meet and be with because I’m in a different place, I know what I want, there’s no more questioning and guessing, there’s no more hoping for the best, although someone may not be showing you their best. It is a me that’s more sure of myself.”
Tara also dishes on whether or not she would do another season of the show, and how much she knew about the relationship between Peter and Amina before filming began. Check that out and more on the latest edition of my weekly entertainment news column.
