Do You Want To Turn Your iPhone 5 Into A Stun Gun?

There’s absolutely no way that a stun gun for your iPhone is a bad idea, right? Errrr, yeeeeeeeah…

At CES 2014, a company called Yellow Jacket just unveiled a new accessory for your iPhone 5. But it’s not a newfangled phone case. It’s also not some kind of protective covering for your screen. And it’s not a camera lens or anything like that. Instead, it’s—are you ready for it?—a stun gun! Yes, a stun gun that will give you access to 650,000 volts with the push of a button. And it’s being billed as a defense mechanism that will allow you to protect yourself if anyone tries to attack you. Check out the video here to see exactly how it works:

Impressed? You should be. What started out as a small Kickstarter program just a couple years ago is now a reality. You can literally own a stun gun for just $149 and it fits all of the iPhone 5 models. There’s also a model for the iPhone 4 that has been out on the market for awhile now that sells for just $99.

Does this seem like a good idea, though? On the surface, yes. The iPhone 5 stun gun is a device that allows people to protect themselves. But if one of these gets into the wrong hands, it could also easily end up being turned into a weapon. And God forbid a small child gets a hold of the stun gun and finds a way to turn off the safety mechanism. It could be a disaster.

If you’re not worried about what might happen with the Yellow Jacket stun gun for the iPhone 5, it will be available next month through the Yellow Jacket company. Do you think that these things are a good idea? Or like us, do you see the potential danger in them? Let us know in the comments section below.
