Vanessa Hudgens Poses In Her Bra & Panties For NYLON: “If You Don’t Like Me, I Don’t Care!”
Don’t let this image of a lingerie-clad Vanessa Hudgens fool you. The 25-year-old is ready to be a serious actress.
After shedding her goody-goody High School Musical persona for her role as a gun-toting delinquent in Spring Breakers, Hudgens is ready to push the envelope even further with her new role in Gimme Shelter. In the gritty drama, based on a true story, Hudgens plays a pregnant teen who escapes her abusive mother and must survive on the streets as she sets out to find her Wall Street father. In the February 2014 issue of NYLON, the usually-polished star dishes on cutting her hair, gaining weight, and embracing the ugly.
“It was the first time I really stepped out of my control zone, physically and material-wise,” she says of playing desperate teen Apple in Gimme Shelter. “I’m a little afraid of myself when I watch it.”
Now, Hudgens looks forward to pushing herself even further with more dramatic material onscreen. “I don’t think it’s ‘good girl gone bad.’ I think it’s more ‘girl growing into a woman and being passionate and taking choices.’ I have so much work to do, and I think I will always feel that way,” she explained. “[During Gimme Shelter] I loved looking into the mirror and seeing myself with short hair and bad skin and tattoos. The uglier I could make myself, the more giggly I would get on the inside.”
While Hudgens realizes that her latest role might shock some of her longtime fans, she’s ready for whatever the haters have to say. “You hear what you want to hear. If you’re not into something, be open about it,” she says. “If you don’t like me, I don’t care. I know God’s plan for me is bigger than anything I could ever plan for myself. It allows me to not worry about the future or what other people think and just to be present and enjoy and try to shine as much as I can.”
