The adidas Originals Stan Smith is, no doubt, one of the most iconic sneakers in the adidas Originals collection. For years now, the Stan Smith has been one of the most well-respected sneakers on the planet. And that’s due in large part to the fact that the Stan Smith has remained consistent and hasn’t changed much since it was first introduced to the world. The Stan Smith was, is, and always will be a classic sneaker. So why then is adidas Originals giving it a makeover this year by teaming up with Opening Ceremony to release a pair of Baseball Stan Smith sneakers?

We don’t know why adidas Originals decided to do it. But we have to admit that, at first glance, we are not mad at them for doing it. In fact, we’re pretty happy to see what they have done here with the Opening Ceremony x adidas Originals Baseball Stan Smith sneakers. They are completely white, were created with nothing but premium leather, and feature some really cool laces on the side of them that make us think about the stitching that’s featured on a baseball glove. They’re everything that we love about the Stan Smith sneakers—plus a little extra. And because of that, we suspect that these will be every bit as popular as the original Stan Smith sneakers when they drop.

Okay, okay, so “every bit as good” might be a slight overstatement. The truth is that adidas is never going to outdo the original Stan Smith sneakers. They’re just too classic. But these Baseball Stan Smiths look really classy and have a very luxe feel to them. So we’re looking forward to seeing these hit stores as part of the Opening Ceremony x adidas Originals Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Are you excited to see Opening Ceremony and adidas Originals team up for these Stan Smith sneakers? Or do you feel like adidas should have left the Stan Smiths alone and gone with a brand-new design?
