Why George Zimmerman’s “Celebrity” Boxing Match With DMX Is Deplorable

In what kind of nightmare is a “celebrity” boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX happening?

Oh, yeah, this American nightmare.

As reported by TMZ, George Zimmerman will participate in a celebrity boxing match. And after opening the floor to anyone who wanted to fight him (including black people!), DMX was the man picked out of over 15,000 entries. A date, time and location have yet to be set, but it will be next Wednesday. But, forget all of that, this is an absolutely disgusting display that should be petitioned and stopped.

First of all, to consider a man who shot a young African American male in cold blood a “celebrity” is pathetic. But this isn’t only Zimmerman’s fault, this is also the fault of the promoter Damon Feldman. It doesn’t matter if it is for “charity” or whatever the hell you want to call it, there is absolutely no way something such as this should be promoted. It only celebrates Zimmerman regardless of how badly he is beaten in this silly boxing match.

Ask yourself this question: If Zimmerman happened to be a black man who shot and killed a teenage white kid, would he be considered a “celebrity?”

Hell, would he even be a free man? The answer to both questions is a resounding no. So why should the man who killed Trayvon Martin get the opportunity to be called a celebrity? Regardless of which side of the Zimmerman fence you are on, our society shouldn’t give someone who killed somebody any additional notoriety. It’s not like there is any other reason for Zimmerman to be considered a celebrity. He’s not an actor, athlete or any kind of entertainer. But, in this era of reality stars who do absolutely nothing to become a celebrity, anybody can be celebrated.

Anybody, including a killer.

But I digress…

What good does this celebrity boxing match do to mend the open wound from a trial that took the country by storm? It hasn’t even been a year since Zimmerman was acquitted. Imagine how Martin’s parents are feeling at this point and time knowing that the man who killed their son is being called a “celebrity?” There is no way to justify something like this taking place. To make matters worse, the announcement came on the day Trayvon Martin would have turned 19.

It’s pathetic. Even if you hope DMX gives Zimmerman a beat down, you have to wonder what good is going to come out of it. Win or lose, Zimmerman stands more to gain out of this ordeal than anyone else. He shouldn’t be able to profit off of this. He’s already actively attempted to parlay his newfound celebrity by selling paintings. All this does is add to the circus that is George Zimmerman. Before we know it, he’ll be a character rather than a killer.

It’s not like the fight is going to be free, it will be broadcast on pay per view. The only individuals who should benefit financially would be Martin’s parents. But something tells me that they don’t want to have anything to do with that kind of blood money.

The bottom line is that we shouldn’t tolerate this kind of nonsense. It is disrespectful to the life of Trayvon Martin. Let’s find a way to prevent this from happening.
