Jimmy Kimmel Confesses Sochi Wolf Hoax
One of late night’s biggest pranksters has won again. Jimmy Kimmel revealed last week that his show was behind the viral video of a wolf supposedly walking through a hotel in Sochi.
The video was posted to social media by real-life American luger Kate Hansen. The 17-second clip shows the animal walking through a nondescript hallway.
But Kimmel revealed later that it was actually an American wolf walking through their own ABC studio offices. He then gleefully introduced a supercut of the numerous national and local news shows that covered the video.
The hoax played off of real reports of the huge packs of dogs roaming Sochi streets, as well as complaints about the unfinished state of hotels for athletes, journalists, and others visiting the seaside town for the Olympic games.
Kimmel was also behind one of YouTube’s other most prominent pranks. For days, video circulated on the internet of a young woman twerking, then getting knocked over by an opening door, falling onto a glass table, and lighting her leg on fire on a candle. But days later, Kimmel revealed the “end” of the video, which showed the host entering the room in the same outfit as the woman, and putting out the fire with an extinguisher. The dancer was actually an accomplished stuntwoman.
