Would You Vote For Deval Patrick For President?

Six years before a possible presidential run, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick set Beltway pundits buzzing just with the word “maybe.” The governor told Politico this week that he would consider a presidential run after 2016.

“That’s a decision I have to make along with my wife of 30 years, and she’s a tough one to convince,” said Patrick. “Let’s just see what time tells.”

Patrick stated he would like a “break” from the public sector after he leaves the governor’s office next year. He has already declared he will not run for re-election this year, and that he has no interest in seeking the presidential nomination for 2016. (Several high profile Democrats, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, have said they will not run in 2016; Hillary Clinton is widely seen as the frontrunner.)

Patrick is particularly close with President Barack Obama, and has been his guest in the White House on several occasions. The governor served as a surrogate for Obama on the campaign trail in 2012, being particular important as the man who succeeded Republican nominee Mitt Romney as governor in Massachusetts. Patrick has received national attention and name recognition after an address at the 2012 Democratic Convention, and in a more serious situation, in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing last year.
