Is New Balance Really Going To Sell These 990 Sneakers With A Bottle Of Wine?

In the past, sneaker companies have done just about everything to try and convince people to buy their shoes. They’ve paid celebrity endorsers. They’ve created all kinds of limited-edition colorways. And they’ve even included things like T-shirts and hats with their shoes. But there’s one thing that we don’t think we’ve ever seen a sneaker company do to try and convince people to buy their sneakers. That thing? Package their sneakers with a bottle of wine. At least, until now…

Recently, New Balance released images of their new New Balance 990 “Wine” sneakers. The sneakers are called “Wine” sneakers because of their color. But when it came time to package the sneakers, New Balance didn’t stop there. In addition to creating the “Wine” colorway, New Balance also created a bottle of wine with New Balance’s branding on the outside of it. And after seeing the image above, we can’t help but wonder what that wine tastes like.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like we’re going to find out. New Balance may have created the bottle of wine above. But for a whole bunch of obvious reasons, it doesn’t sound like they’re going to package the 990 “Wine” sneakers with a bottle of wine. However, they are reportedly going to package the sneakers inside of a wine box. And even though a wine box isn’t quite as cool as an actual wine, it’s still a pretty creative idea—and it should convince a lot of people to buy the 990 “Wine” sneakers when they’re released next month.

What do you think about what New Balance has done with the 990 “Wine” sneakers? Do you think they needed to make a production out of the “Wine” theme, or do you think the sneakers pretty much sell themselves? Let us know what you think. We’ll be over here sipping on some…well, water. It’s too early in the day to break out our New Balance wine!
