Is Joakim Noah Trying To Recruit Carmelo Anthony To The Chicago Bulls?
Sorry, New York Knicks fans, but there’s a pretty good chance that Carmelo Anthony will not be back in the Big Apple next year. At the moment, the Knicks are just 22-40 so far this season. And due to the fact that they have very little money to spend during the offseason, they’re probably going to be just as bad during the 2014-15 NBA season as they are this season. So Carmelo is likely going to opt out of his contract this summer and find a new team to play for. And according to reports coming out of Chicago, that team could be the Bulls.
According to ESPN Chicago, Bulls center Joakim Noah approached Carmelo Anthony during 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend last month and spoke to him about the possibility of ‘Melo joining the Bulls next season. Noah reportedly told Carmelo that, if he wants to win an NBA championship, the best place for him to do it would be in Chicago. And Anthony reportedly responded by telling Noah that he appreciates how hard the Bulls play and that his son is a big fan of Bulls guard Derrick Rose. Obviously, Anthony didn’t commit to coming to Chicago or anything. But reports seem to indicate that he was interested in finding out more about what it’s like to play for the Bulls.
This isn’t the first rumor about Carmelo Anthony leaving New York City to circulate this season. And it certainly won’t be the last. But if Carmelo were to make his way to Chicago next season, it would be a great place for him to land. The Bulls have a relatively young team with the right pieces in place to make a title run. And while Chicago isn’t New York, it is one of the biggest markets in the NBA and would give Carmelo plenty of exposure.
It’ll be interesting to see what Carmelo chooses to do this summer. We’re sure he wants to stay in New York and try to win a title there. But with the Knicks looking worse and worse this season, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him make a move in July. And that move could very well be to Chicago.
