Could Carmelo Anthony Be Headed To Houston To Play For The Rockets Next Season?

Even though the New York Knicks have been playing pretty well lately—and even though the Knicks have reportedly locked up a deal with Phil Jackson, who will work in the team’s front office moving forward—the future is still very uncertain for Carmelo Anthony. Over the course of the last few months, Anthony has been rumored to be interested in leaving the Knicks through free agency this summer to play for everyone from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Chicago Bulls. And while all of the news surrounding his interest in other teams is still just speculation, there is a chance that ‘Melo will leave New York this summer—and, according to reports, there’s yet another team that could be interested in signing him.

That team is the Houston Rockets. And in a lot of ways, Carmelo signing with the Rockets would make sense. It would instantly make the Rockets a strong championship contender. It would put Carmelo alongside fellow superstars James Harden and Dwight Howard. And it would set Carmelo up to do what LeBron James did a few years ago, when he signed with the Miami Heat and took a pay cut in order to show just how important winning a title was to him. So Carmelo going to Houston could be a real possibility.

The problem, at least at the moment, is that the Rockets likely don’t have the salary cap space to give Carmelo what he wants. So in order to obtain his services, they would need to work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Knicks, which is something that the Knicks would probably not want to do. But if anyone can find a way to bring Carmelo to Houston, it’s Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, who has done some really creative things over the last few years to put together a really strong roster for the Rockets. If you remember, he was the guy who found a way to offer Jeremy Lin a deal that the Knicks simply couldn’t match a couple years ago. So don’t think that he won’t at least try to sign ‘Melo.

What do you think about the idea of Carmelo playing in Houston, though? Would it be good for his career? Or do you think he’s better off playing elsewhere?
