Nick Cannon On His Life-Threatening Battle With Lupus: “The Condition Has Made Me Better!”

They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and Nick Cannon learned that lesson firsthand.

After his heavy schedule left the mogul in the making hospitalized with the kidney failure in 2012, the America’s Got Talent host mustered all his strength to make the difficult decision to simplify his life, which included quitting his morning radio show on 92.3 NOW. With his Lupus diagnosis under control, the 33-year-old sat down down with Bleu writer Reginald Larkin recently to discuss his newfound lease on life.

“The condition has made me better,” he explained. “I have doctors’ orders to get a certain amount of sleep. I used to go a week or two without sleep, only taking naps. (Nick’s workout involves) It is a lot of stretching and mediating, before I would lift weights. Now it is a total body workout. It is a blood condition and you have to make sure your blood is flowing properly.”

Besides exercise, Nick’s lighter schedule has allowed him the ability to spend time with his superstar wife Mariah Carey and their babies Roc and Roe.

“You know my style has to be next level,” said Nick. “Sinatra back in the day had effortless swag. I would snatch everything from that dude’s closet. Even though my gear is crazy, and my wife’s gear is crazy, my kids probably have better style than the both of us. We kind of dictate off of what they wear.”

Take a behind-the-scenes look at Nick’s shoot with Bleu below, styled by the Nigerian-born Ugo Mozie. Does Nick inspire you to take the time in your life to stop and smell the roses?
