Gene Simmons Doesn’t Want Rappers In The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

For many years, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame didn’t have a lot of black faces. But recently, the HOF opened its doors to the likes of Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash, thus recognizing their contributions to music. However, some of the artists that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame haven’t been so welcoming to the idea of hip hop artists being a part of this esteemed institution. One person in particular, KISS frontman Gene Simmons, went out of his way to explain his position on the matter.

“A long time ago it was diluted,” Simmons said according to The Source. “It’s really back room politics, like Boss Tweed. A few people decide what’s in and what’s not. And the masses just scratch their heads. You’ve got Grandmaster Flash in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Run D.M.C in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? You’re killing me! That doesn’t mean those aren’t good artists. But they don’t play guitar. They sample and they talk.”

Obviously, these words were found to be offensive by many in the hip hop community. And just as the hip hop community has always done, they fired back. R.A. the Rugged Man took to his twitter account to let off an opening salvo at the singer.

“Gene Simmons from KISS says Grandmaster Flash & RUN DMC dont belong in Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. That make-up wearing clown can suck a d__k,” he tweeted.

He also took to Facebook to further explain why Gene Simmons’ attitude toward hip hop artists is very unwelcome.

“RUN DMC’s biggest records had live Rock guitars and rock instrumentation on them. They also put Aerosmith back on the map. And Run DMC’s mix of the two genre’s unquestionably influenced future rockers like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, etc. Any one saying they dont belong are just clueless and ignorant.”

Do you agree with Simmons or R.A.?
