adidas Originals Is Re-Releasing Keyshawn Johnson’s Classic Key Trainer Sneaker Next Month

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. It was Keyshawn Johnson‘s career with the New York Jets

Back in the 1990s, the Jets drafted Johnson and fully expected him to be a franchise wide receiver for them for many, many, many years to come. And while he did have a solid career in New York City, Johnson was never able to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl victory. He also made more than a few negative headlines for publicly criticizing his Jets coaches for not getting him the ball more. So Johnson’s career with the Jets ended up being a mixed bag of both good and bad moments.

One of those good moments came in 1996 when Johnson started wearing the adidas Key Trainer on the field. While there weren’t a ton of wide receivers getting their own signature sneakers back in the ’90s, Johnson got one because of his unique style of play. And the sneakers themselves were very unique because they featured the same “Feet You Wear” outsole that was featured on the adidas Crazy 8 sneaker worn by Kobe Bryant at the start of his career. The sneakers had a white upper, hits of green and black throughout the sneaker, and a green outsole that made the Key Trainers look like they were built specifically to match the Jets uniforms. They don’t often get mentioned amongst all of the other great NFL-themed sneakers of the ’90s. But they were definitely dope.

adidas Originals hasn’t forgotten just how dope they were, either. So they just announced that they’re going to re-release the Key Trainer sneakers next month. They will be available through select adidas retailers on April 4 and will also be sold online through the adidas Originals website. If you’re interested in picking up a pair, check out some additional images of the sneaker below.

Do you think that now was the right time for adidas to re-release these Key Trainers back out into the world?
