Nick Cannon Wears White Face To Promote White People Party Music & Gets Slammed For Being Racist

America’s got issues with Nick Cannon‘s latest publicity stunt.

The 33-year-old funny man and America’s Got Talent host donned white face to promote his first album in 11 years called White People Party Music. In a photo posted on Instagram, Cannon looks almost unrecognizable covered with white makeup on his face, neck, and hands while wearing a strawberry blond wig, flannel shirt, and beanie hat.

“It’s official…I’m White!!!” Cannon captioned the pic of himself playing the surfer-boy type character he calls Connor Smallnut. “#WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC #Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft ‘Bro I got drafted!!’”

With a backlash brewing, the husband of pop star Mariah Carey attempted to explain the controversial title. “You go to a party and white people are having more fun than anybody,” Cannon told Us Weekly. “They know how to have a good time! I could have named the album Purple People Party Music and you’d still get the same album, but it was just one of those things. You know, you deal with things like race, and people get uptight, so why not?”

He continued, “As a DJ, you name all your different playlists and your crates that you keep your music in. I had all these crates, and thought about mixing them from Dirty South to Midwest—and one crate is called White People Party Music. It’s hilarious—when I came up with that title, I thought I have to name my album that. I just kind of stuck with it from there.”

Yet, many don’t think the concept of Cannon’s new album and white face shenanigans are a laughing matter. Almost immediately after posting the image of himself as “Smallnut,” critics attacked the performer calling him “racist,” “not cool,” “ignorant” and “hypocritical.” Just months ago, Dancing With The StarsJulianne Hough was slammed for donning black face as part of her Halloween costume and Cannon’s “skater boy” costume is being considered equally as offensive.

Despite the naysayers, the father to twins Moroccan and Monroe is still defending his actions. “Duuuude everybody Chil-lax!!!! It’s funny how people take themselves so seriously,” he tweeted. “People love drama! We feed off of it. Just relax and have fun!! There is a big difference between Humor and Hatred.”

White People Party Music is set to hit stores on April 1, aka April Fools Day. Watch more video of Nick Cannon hitting the streets as Connor Smallnut below. Do you think that Nick Cannon’s white face is offensive to white people?
