Check Out The First Trailer For Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Fans of classic 1980′s cartoons were despondent when schlock king producer Michael Bay announced he was making a live-action version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But a new trailer out this week has viewers saying “…Maybe.”
Megan Fox stars as April O’Neil, the reporter who discovers and befriends the Turtles. The crimefighters themselves are computer-generated, though the actors performed in motion-capture suits during filming.
One big piece of relieving news: it appears Bay has given up his earlier idea that the Turtles would be aliens. This announcement was met with skepticism on the Internet, as everyone knows the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were created when radioactive ooze leaked into the New York City sewers. (Hence “ninja” and not “alien!”) But the first trailer shows the ooze, and though it looks like the backstory has changed a bit (Shredder accidentally created the Turtles?), this is not as big a departure as before.
A live action TMNT film was made in 1990, and did well. In that film, the Turtles were created with actors in partially-animatronic suits created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
