Will The Texans Regret It If They Don’t Select Jadeveon Clowney No. 1 Overall In The 2014 NFL Draft?

Who is going to be the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft? That’s the question that NFL analysts and fans have been asking for months now. On the one hand, there are several quarterbacks, including Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, and Blake Bortles, who are very intriguing prospects. And all three of them would look good in a Houston Texans uniform. On the other, former South Carolina defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney has looked good during the offseason. His Pro Day was a massive success earlier this week, and he appears ready to get to work if the Texans choose him. But there’s another reason why the Texans might want to think twice if they ultimately decide to choose anyone besides Clowney.

After his Pro Day workout on Wednesday, Clowney basically came out and said that he wants to be picked No. 1 overall. And if he isn’t selected first, he’s already vowed to seek revenge on the Texans whenever he plays against them.

“I have to make them miserable,” he said, before selling himself as a complete player. “I can play any position on the field. I’m an athlete…I have no problem strapping and moving.”

And that right there is why the Texans should take Clowney first overall. He’s the total package and, at this point, he’s the only player in the entire draft who is essentially a “sure thing.” Provided he doesn’t get injured or lose all motivation to play football, Clowney is going to be the best player to come out of the 2014 NFL Draft. He has all the tools he needs to succeed and he seems to have his head on straight right now. He wants to prove that he should be the No. 1 pick in the draft. He is, in a word, hungry.

With that in mind, the Texans have to take him. They might be tempted by one of the QBs in the draft—and they should be. All of the shot callers that we named above have the potential to be great players. But Clowney is the one guy that you don’t want to pass on in this draft. Because if you do, he will make you pay. So do the right thing, Texans. Or else…
