Are The Indiana Pacers Falling Apart Right Now & Risking Their Chances Of Advancing Far In The Playoffs?

If you asked us a month ago whether or not the Indiana Pacers had a realistic chance of upsetting the Miami Heat in the NBA Playoffs this season, we would have told you “YES!” The Pacers were playing very well and looked like a team that could potentially give LeBron James & Co. all that they could handle. They have a solid scorer in Paul George, an excellent big man in Roy Hibbert, and a stout defense that is one of the best in the NBA. Plus, a month ago, the Pacers had home-court advantage in the Eastern Conference all but wrapped up. They were well on their way to setting themselves up nicely for the playoffs.

Things look much differently now, though. Not only have the Heat caught and surpassed the Pacers in the race for home-court advantage, but the Pacers are also playing like they don’t belong in the playoffs, let alone the Eastern Conference Finals or the NBA Finals. Their coach Frank Vogel has suggested that his starting lineup is simply tired. But whatever the reason, the Pacers haven’t played very well on either side of the basketball over the course of the last few weeks, and they laid an egg during a home game against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night when they went down by 32 points at halftime and were unable to make much of a comeback in these second half. It was ugly, to say the least, and made Indiana look like a team that’s going to be lucky to win a single playoff series.

Is this a bad sign for the Pacers? Of course. At the same time, it’s important for them and their fans to remember that this is not the end of the road for them. There is still time for them to get things together before the end of the regular season so that they’re ready for the playoffs. They’re going to have to get themselves together quickly, though. Because while other teams are starting to play their best basketball of the season right now, the Pacers are regressing. And they’re no longer the team to watch in the East. So they’d better find a way to pull things back together or they could be in big trouble later this month when the postseason starts.
