Sorry, fellas, but Ellie Goulding doesn’t need your love. The 27-year-old British pop princess behind the hit tracks “Anything Could Happen,” “Burn,” “Dead In The Water,” and “I Need Your Love” has handled her fair share of heartbreak. Nevertheless, after a messy breakup with soul singer Ed Sheeran, she’s single and loving it!

In the May 2014 issue of Cosmopolitan, Ellie is completely transparent. Not only does she smolder in sheer looks by Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Sportmax, Blumarine, Elizabeth and James, and Stella McCartney (not to mention the fabulous Christian Louboutin caged booties above), but she is also crystal clear on her career and learning from her past relationships.

“I [used to] put men on a pedestal,” she confessed. “They’d be everything. I decided to remedy that, and that’s why I’m single now. I’ve realized I don’t need a guy. I’ve got amazing, awesome, stupid friends in the best way possible. I don’t rely on a guy for anything.”

Still, all that heartbreak has taught the blonde beauty a few things. “[I learned] to be in the present moment,” she explained. “A lot of the despair in breaking up with someone is thinking about how you’re going to cope in the future. ‘What’s going to happen to me? Who am I going to find next? What am I going to do without him?’ But not being completely present prevents you from being happy and alive. As soon as you stop relying so heavily on what happened in the past, you end up being able to deal.”

These days, Ellie is focused on her future and celebrating her achievements, which include a plum spot on the Divergent soundtrack and her performances at the White House and Buckingham Palace for the Royal Wedding. “It was the first time I’d done something so completely otherworldly,” she said of singing in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton on their big day. “It’s not an everyday occurrence. It really made me have extreme gratitude for what I did, how I’d gotten there, and the people around me.”
