Is adidas Originals Preparing To Re-Release The Mutombo 2 Sneaker This Spring?

Late last summer, adidas Originals made a whole lot of people out there extremely happy when they decided to bring the adidas Mutombo sneaker back. Super high high-tops were extremely popular amongst sneakerheads last year, so the Mutombo sneaker was really well received. In fact, it was received so well that adidas Originals released it in several other colorways both last year and early this year and they all sold out shortly after they were released. So with that in mind, adidas Originals has decided to continue going with what works.

adidas Originals is not going to re-release the Mutombo sneaker in another new colorway, though. Instead, it sounds like they’re going to re-release Dikembe Mutombo‘s second signature sneaker, the adidas Mutombo 2, this spring. They haven’t released many details about it yet. But they did release the promo that you see above that features a reference to the Denver Nuggets shocking the Seattle Supersonics back in the 1994 NBA Playoffs. And during that series, Mutombo wore his second signature sneaker. So it sounds like adidas Originals is going to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mutombo 2 and the ’94 playoff series between the Nuggets and Sonics by re-releasing the sneaker.

If adidas Originals does re-release the Mutombo 2, do you think that now is a good time to do it? The truth is that we think they probably could have gotten a lot more mileage out of the original Mutombo. There is definitely still a pretty healthy demand for it. But at the same time, now is a great time to release the Mutombo 2 because of all the hoopla surrounding the anniversary of the Nuggets/Sonics playoff series. So we can’t really blame adidas Originals for capitalizing off of it by re-releasing the Mutombo 2.

The Mutombo 2 is expected to hit stores on May 10. We’ll be sure to let you know more details on it when they become available. Will you be picking up a pair of these sneakers when they drop?
