Beyoncé Tops The TIME “100 Most Influential People” List: “Her Secret? Hard Work”

Once again, Beyoncé has proved that she runs the world.

The 32-year-old singer graces the cover of this year’s TIME 100 Most Influential People issue. Bare faced and beautiful, Beyoncé’s star power shines through her minimal make-up in the black and white photo, while wearing a simple sheer top and bikini bottom matching white ensemble.

In the feature, written by Lean In author and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, the wife of Jay Z is applauded for her stellar contributions to the entertainment realm this year, which included the surprise release of her self-titled fifth solo album and her efforts to #BanBossy from our vocabulary.

“Beyoncé doesn’t just sit at the table,” Sandberg wrote. “She builds a better one. Today she sits at the head of the boardroom table at Parkwood Entertainment. In December, she took the world by surprise when she released a new album, complete with videos, and announced it on Facebook and Instagram. Beyoncé shattered music-industry rules—and sales records.”

She continued: “In the past year, Beyoncé has sold out the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour while being a full-time mother. Her secret: hard work, honesty and authenticity. And her answer to the question, What would you do if you weren’t afraid?’ appears to be ‘Watch me. I’m about to do it.’ Then she adds, ‘You can, too.’”

In addition to Beyoncé, Hollywood icon Robert Redford, General Motors CEO Mary Barra, and Brooklyn Nets center Jason Collins all received TIME covers of their own. You might recall Collins’ last high profile cover: when he became the first active male player in the history of any of the four major American professional sports (football, basketball, baseball, and hockey) to reveal he is gay on a May 2013 cover of Sports Illustrated.

Other notables to be included on the TIME 100 list include rumored presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, “Happy” producer, hip-hop artist, and designer Pharrell Williams, actress Amy Adams, Scandal star Kerry Washington, twerkin’ singer Miley Cyrus, 2014 Best Actor Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, country singer and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, and tennis champion Serena Williams.
