Expect Kevin Durant To Go Off Tonight After Seeing An Oklahoma Newspaper Refer To Him As “Mr. Unreliable”

What are you planning on doing tonight at around, oh, 8 p.m.? If you just answered that question with anything other than “Watching the Oklahoma City Thunder play the Memphis Grizzlies!” you must have lost your mind. Because tonight is shaping up to be an epic playoff battle between the Thunder and Grizzlies. And we can pretty much guarantee that you’re not going to want to miss it.

Under normal circumstances, the sixth game of the Thunder/Grizzlies playoff series would be must-see TV. But tonight’s game is going to be played under anything but normal circumstances. And that’s because, earlier today, the Oklahoma City newspaper The Oklahoman referred to Thunder superstar Kevin Durant as “Mr. Unreliable.” Yes, “Mr. Unreliable”! And as you might imagine, that hasn’t gone over very well both inside and outside of Oklahoma City. Durant himself hasn’t responded to it yet, but many fans of the NBA have called the paper out for running a “Mr. Unreliable” headline. The outrage has actually gotten so out of hand that The Oklahoman apologized for their headline this afternoon and said that they shouldn’t have run it.

So what does this have to do with tonight’s Thunder/Grizzlies game? Well, we don’t usually make many sports-related guarantees—it’s almost impossible to guarantee anything when it comes to sports—but we are going to guarantee that Durant has a huge game tonight. KD is a bonafide superstar and is able to do incredible things on the basketball court. And while he hasn’t exactly done them consistently through the first five games of the Thunder/Grizzlies series (he’s only shooting about 40 percent from the field), Durant is going to have to do everything in his power to will his team to a win tonight. And we fully expect him to use the “Mr. Unreliable” controversy to his advantage as extra motivation. He’s going to prove that he’s anything but “unreliable” when the Thunder take the court.

Will you be watching? If not, we hope you’e going to spend your time looking for your mind instead.
