Floyd Mayweather Announces Date For Next Fight; Opponent Unknown
It hasn’t even been a month since Floyd Mayweather endured the rough housing tactics of Marcos Maidana to earn a hotly contested majority decision victory, but “Money” already knows when his next fight is.
Just don’t ask him whom it is against or where.
September 13 is the date that Mayweather will step into the ring. But even though his last nine fights have taken place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, there has been some serious consideration given to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Also up in the air is the opponent.
While conventional wisdom suggests that a rematch with Marcos Maidana is the best fight that can be made for Mayweather aside from the Pacquiao fight that we’ve given up on, there are other competitors lined up to hit the lottery against the man known as “Money.”
Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter are all waiting in line to get their number called. Amir Khan was a front runner until he made it clear that he couldn’t fight in September due to Ramadan.
But all roads appear to lead to a Marcos Maidana rematch. Everyone else doesn’t make much financial sense for Mayweather, and he has a cloud hanging over his head with the nature of how the Maidana fight went considering he was such a massive favorite.
A formal announcement is expected within the month, but go ahead and start preparing to see Mayweather this fall.
