Why Didn’t The Rockets Tell Jeremy Lin Before They Photoshopped A Picture Of Carmelo Anthony Wearing His Number?
Jeremy Lin plays for the Houston Rockets and he wears No. 7 for the team. At least, that’s what we thought up until yesterday. But yesterday afternoon, a photo of Carmelo Anthony wearing a No. 7 Rockets jersey started making the rounds on the Internet, and we were all very confused. Very, very confused. The Rockets already have a guy who wears No. 7. So why in the world would they show ‘Melo pictures of him wearing another player’s jersey?
Apparently, the Rockets did it because they wanted to show Carmelo what he would look like in a Rockets jersey during a meeting with him. But the plan backfired because, almost immediately, NBA fans started calling them out on Twitter for allowing the photo to be created since Lin already wears No. 7. Lin himself didn’t respond directly to the photo. But he did send out a tweet that seemed to be directed at the Rockets and the situation.

And we have to say: We don’t blame Lin one bit for being upset with what the Rockets did. Or better yet, we don’t blame him one bit for being upset for doing it without asking him first. Because the truth is that if the Rockets had come to him and explained that they were going to create the photo and essentially give Carmelo his jersey number in it, he probably wouldn’t have had a problem with it. But it sort of seems like they just ignored his feelings altogether and did what they wanted to do to try and land Carmelo. And that just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. We know that the Rockets really want Carmelo and that, in all likelihood, they will have to trade Lin if they end up signing him because of salary cap issues. But it was pretty classless to go behind Lin’s back and give Carmelo the number while he’s still on the team, wasn’t it?
Let us know if you think the Rockets messed up here in the comments section below. Do you think Lin has a right to be upset with the team?
