Should Chris Bosh Go Ahead & Sign A Deal With The Houston Rockets This Summer?
It’s a good thing that NBA free agent Chris Bosh is currently on vacation with his family. Because if he wasn’t, he would really be stuck in limbo right now. And he would likely have to make a really tough decision within the next day or two that could affect both him and his family and the rest of the NBA.
Yesterday, the Houston Rockets reportedly offered Bosh—who opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat back on July 1—a four-year, $88 million deal that is worth more, significantly more, than the contract that the Heat are reportedly offering him right now. And the Rockets are serious about adding Bosh to their team to help them get over the hump. As of right now, their roster is in flux but they have two bonafide superstars in James Harden and Dwight Howard on their roster, and they also have a solid collection of role players who compliment their core very well. So if they were able to land Bosh this summer, they would have a team that would be every bit as good as anyone else in the Western Conference. So signing Bosh has become a priority for them since it sounds like they’ve moved on from the idea of signing Carmelo Anthony.
Should Bosh accept their deal, though? That’s the $88 million question—and it’s the question that Bosh is likely going to struggle to answer. On the one hand, going to the Rockets would probably be great for Bosh’s career. He’s had a nice run in Miami but, as of right now, he’s the third wheel when it comes to the Heat’s “Big 3″ of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Bosh. So going to Houston would give him the opportunity to reinvent himself. But on the other hand, he’s built the foundation of his legacy in Miami and solidified himself as an important member of the Heat team. Plus, it seems like him and his wife really love Miami and have enjoyed their time there. So what should he do?
If we were him, we would accept the Rockets’ offer in a heartbeat. Because not only will he get paid more in Houston, but there’s also a pretty good chance that he’ll be on a better team. With LeBron rumored to be on his way out of Miami and D-Wade inching closer towards the end of his career, Bosh will put himself into a much better position and give himself a chance to revamp his reputation with the Rockets. It’s a win/win situation for him and one that we think he needs to try and become a part of ASAP.
Do you think that Bosh would be a good fit in Houston? Or do you think he needs to stay with the Heat?
