Production on the Aaliyah biopic shoulders on. Nickelodeon star Alexandra Shipp has been cast as the late R&B singer, taking the place of Zendaya Coleman, who backed out of the Lifetime network project late last month. The 17-year-old walked away from the role in the midst of drama with production and backlash over casting.

In addition to the news that Alexandra will star in the film, it’s been revealed that Wendy Williams will executive produce the biopic. The talk show host tweeted Friday, “I’m excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase. Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah.”

Aaliyah: Princess of R&B is slated to premiere on Lifetime in the fall.
