Do You Want To See A Movie Based On Mike Tyson’s Life?
For the last few years, Mike Tyson has talked pretty extensively about the idea of making a movie based on his life. It seems just about everyone is getting a biopic these days, so we were pretty sure that some movie studio was going to bite on the idea, too. But as time went by, it seemed less and less likely that the movie was going to get made because, while Tyson kept talking about it, we never heard of any real interest from a studio…until now.
Recently, Tyson did an interview with IGN Entertainment and, once again, brought up the idea of him taking part in the creation of a biopic. But this time, he discussed it with greater detail and even said that he’s gotten Jamie Foxx to agree to play him in the movie. He still think that he’s about one or two years away from actually making the movie, but according to him, Foxx’s manager Rick Yorn is going to produce the film and Terrence Winter—who has written for everything from The Wolf of Wall Street to The Sopranos—has reportedly agreed to write the movie. So it sounds like this Mike Tyson biopic is actually going to become a real thing sometime in the near future.
There’s only one question remaining: Will you watch it? On the surface, a Mike Tyson biopic seems perfect. Tyson has taken part in so many crazy things throughout the course of his life that it seems like a no-brainer. But the one problem we have with the idea of a Tyson movie is that it feels like we already know so much about him. His life has been so well publicized that it’s going to be difficult for him to surprise us with anything in the movie. Or is it?
The one way we think that the movie will definitely work is if it really focuses in on Tyson’s upbringing and what turned him into the person he is today. It’s been a long process for him and we think that that in and of itself could make for a great film. And it’s something that we would definitely buy a ticket for, assuming, of course, Tyson and Foxx actually get around to making it.
Would you be interested in seeing a movie about Mike Tyson? Or like us, are you worried that the plot would be too predictable for the average Mike Tyson fan?
