It’s no surprise that the latest installment of the Marvel Universe’s interlocking superhero movies is a box office hit; but Guardians of the Galaxy has even exceeded expectations. The action comedy grossed $94 million in North America in its opening weekend, making it the biggest August debut of all time.

The previous holder of that title was The Bourne Ultimatum, with $69.3 million.

Guardians has also been a hit with audiences and critics, earning 92% “fresh” ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, and an “A” grade on CinemaScore.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as a group of criminals who band together to save the universe. It also features Lee Pace, Glenn Close, and John C. Reily.

Have you seen it? Do you think it rates the hype?
