Should Lakers Fans Be Encouraged By The Comments That Kobe Bryant Made Recently?

Next season is probably going to be a bust for the Los Angeles Lakers and their fans. It’ll certainly be a better season than last season was because, let’s face it, last season was an absolute disaster for the Lake Show. But the Lakers didn’t land any of the free agents they were targeting this summer. Carmelo Anthony didn’t want to come to L.A. LeBron James didn’t even give it a second thought. And even some of the second-tier guys that the Lakers were interested in decided to sign elsewhere. But there is one thing that might give some of the Lakers fans out there a little bit of hope. That thing? The return of Kobe Bryant.

Now, we know what you’re thinking: “Kobe’s old” or “Kobe’s not the same player he used to be” or “Kobe can’t make the Lakers good on his own.” And you’re 100 percent right. But recently, Kobe did an interview with a German newspaper called Die Welt and some of the comments that he made to the paper might change your perception of Kobe right now. Because it sounds like he’s going to be ready to go once the season starts.

“I can’t wait to return to my duties on the court,” he said. “I feel like a race horse that has been locked in a barn for months. I want to get out.”

A race horse that has been locked in a barn for months? That’s a weird way of putting it. But it could be good for the Lakers because, after struggling through a series of leg injuries in recent years, Kobe appears to be back in good shape and ready to resume his career. And while he does realize that the end of his career is quickly approaching, he also thinks he has another good year or two left in him, and he’s going to give the Lakers everything that he’s got next season.

Unfortunately, that’s probably, er, definitely not going to result in the Lakers winning a title next June. But at the very least, Kobe’s optimism about next season should give Lakers supporters some optimism, too. He’s going to try his hardest, guys. And at this point, isn’t that pretty much all that you can ask for from him?
