Is Anyone Going To Be Able To Stop Peyton Manning & The Broncos This Season?

Last week, former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez, who is now working as an NFL analyst for CBS, made a very bold prediction. During an interview with Newsday, he predicted that Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will go undefeated this season and win the Super Bowl, making them the first team ever to go 19-0. Despite the fact that they’ve got teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, and New England Patriots on their schedule, Gonzalez doesn’t think that anyone is going to be able to stop the Broncos now that they’ve got a strong offense and a solid defense. And you know what? He might end up being right.

When we first heard what Gonzalez had to say about the Broncos, we thought he was crazy. Sure, the Broncos are good. But going undefeated? That’s damn-near impossible to do on today’s NFL. However, on Saturday night, we saw something that we’d never seen before during the Broncos preseason game against the Houston Texans. We saw Peyton Manning pick up a taunting penalty after jawing at Texans safety D.J. Swearinger, who was responsible for knocking Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker out of the game with a concussion. And it let us know that Manning is playing with an edge this season, an edge that wasn’t there last year when the Broncos got destroyed by the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. And that edge is exactly what the Broncos are going to need if they’re going to run the table and win the championship this season.

Does Manning’s penalty prove that the Broncos are definitely going to win all of their games this season? No. In fact, we’re still not really buying Gonzalez’s argument about the Broncos going undefeated. But it does prove that the Broncos are going to be tough to beat. Between Peyton Manning throwing touchdown passes and the Broncos much-improved defense, they have the talent that it takes to win a title. And if they’ve got a chip on their shoulder, too? Look out, league. The Broncos are going to be your worst nightmare.
