adidas Is Releasing A Rockets-Inspired Crazy 8 Sneaker For Jeremy Lin, Even Though He’s On The Lakers Now
Earlier this summer, the Houston Rockets decided to trade Jeremy Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers so that they could free up some salary cap space to try and sign a big-name free agent. At the time, they were thinking that they might be able to land Carmelo Anthony or Chris Bosh. They didn’t end up landing either of them, though, so Lin is on the Lakers now and the Rockets got, well, basically nothing in exchange for him. It wasn’t one of the better deals that they’ve made in recent years.
Actually, we shouldn’t say that Houston got nothing. Because the Rockets will be getting one thing as a result of their association with Lin. A special Rockets-themed colorway of the adidas Crazy 8 sneaker! Er, okay, so that’s probably not something that they’re interested in. But adidas is reportedly moving ahead with the sneaker right now, even though Lin is no longer running with the Rockets.
Earlier this year, adidas signed Lin to a sneaker endorsement deal and started working on the Rockets-themed Crazy 8. It features a white leather upper, hits of red and yellow, Lin’s signature on the ankle and Lin’s logo on the tongue, and it has the general look and feel of a Rockets uniform. The good news for adidas—and Lin—is that, in addition to being inspired by the Rockets, it could also be considered a “China-inspired” sneaker. So at the very least, it won’t be a constant reminder about what the Rockets gave up to get nothing this summer. But it’s still going to be a little bit strange to see Lin wearing this sneaker as a member of the Lakers.
What do you think about the Rockets-inspired Crazy 8 that adidas created? There’s no release date for it yet. But it’ll likely be released sometime this fall. Check out some additional images of it below.
