Drew Carey Offers Reward for “Ice Bucket Challenge” Assault on Autistic Boy
Actor, comedian, and TV host Drew Carey has offered $10,000 to anyone who helps police apprehend the people behind a disturbing prank against an autistic boy.
In the incident, students from a Cleveland-area high school dumped urine and feces on the victim. The boy apparently thought he was taking place in the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral stunt that has raised thousands of dollars for ALS research.
Carey, a Cleveland native, made the offer on Twitter, and said he would donate the money to the charity Autism Speaks if the police solve the case without the reward being paid.
[Local police chief] Mark Spaetzel called the prank “heinous,” and said charges would be brought as soon as police identify the teens who organized the prank.
Bay Village School District faculty sent a letter to students and parents this week informing them of the situation and saying the actions of the teenagers in the video do not reflect the majority of their student body.
The high school organized a vigil for the teen prior to a Friday night football game.
