Floyd Mayweather’s Ex On His Reading Ability: “It Isn’t Important If He Can Read Or Not With The Occupation That He Does”

To many, Floyd Mayweather is the greatest boxer in sports history, but over the last several weeks, the 37-year-old has been the target of jokes and social media memes because of his struggles with literacy.

Talk about Floyd’s ability to read (or lack thereof) was sparked by his former friend, hip-hop titan 50 Cent, who posted a video on Instagram challenging Floyd to read a page of a Harry Potter novel. Power 105 FM radio personality Charlamagne Tha God later added fuel to the fire by releasing audio of Floyd struggling to read a promo for the station. Floyd eventually responded to the chatter by posting images on Instagram of two checks with the caption, “Read this $72,276,000.00.”

One person who can speak on Floyd’s reading ability is his ex, Josie Harris. Floyd and Josie were together for twelve tumultuous years and share three children together. The stay-at-home mom, who starred on the TLC reality series Starter Wives Confidential, recently finished writing a book that centers around her relationship with Floyd.

I recently spoke to Josie for my column, “The Scoop With The Hip-Hop Socialite”, about the drama with Floyd and 50, and the question about Floyd’s literacy, and she explained why being a good reader isn’t a necessary trait for where Floyd is in life.

“People have nothing else better to do but make fun of someone else, I’ll just say that. In the end, we’re all good, and that is something – some people are great at math and suck at reading, some people love to write, and hate numbers, you know. That’s why there are a bunch of different occupations in this world, and people make a choice to do what they’re best at in order to make a living,” she told me.

“Floyd makes a great living and provides a great living for many people who don’t have skills to work anywhere else. It isn’t important if he can read or not with the occupation that he does, and people commenting on that have no lives themselves, and I’m sure they have plenty of things that they’re not good at. Like for instance, you know, being a good dad, or having a good job. We’re all good at something and bad at others. Floyd, he’s just getting pointed out and picked on and bullied by, I believe, a jealous friend, you know what I mean, in particular, a jealous old friend who is still bitter about the break up of a bromance. Oh, I’m sorry, did I say that?” [laughs]

Josie also gave the background on a picture that emerged late last month of Floyd and 50′s estranged son, Marquise. According to Josie, Floyd was not trying to be messy or spiteful by hanging out with the teen at one of his recent fights.

“I’m really good friends with his [50 Cents] children’s mother Shaniqua, his first child’s mother, and I can’t really speak on their [Floyd and 50's] friendship. I don’t know if it’s like, ‘Oh, we’re friends today, and we’re going to be friends tomorrow.’ Or if it’s just a small beef, and they’re picking on each other, and they’re just on the outs, and they’re going to be friends again, I don’t really know, but I do know that…because there was a picture that surfaced,” she explained.

“Shaniqua and her son went to the fight – she let me know she was going beforehand, so we got them tickets and stuff, but I just totally couldn’t make it. So, unfortunately, I didn’t get to hang out with her, but Floyd really cares about 50’s son. It’s not in like a messy way, it was more of a just, you know, Marquise is a fan of Floyd, and you know, Floyd is the best boxer of all time, and Marquise is 19…of course it’s cool. He wanted to go to the fight, and Floyd said he could go, so it wasn’t like anything trying to be messy, but I don’t know if their bromance is going to come back together.”

Do you think how well Floyd can read is important regardless of his occupation? Let us know by leaving a comment below. To read the rest of my interview with Josie, be sure to check out “The Scoop With The Hip-Hop Socialite” on JuicyMagOnline.com.
