Is Katy Perry A Good Choice For The Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show?

It’s only Week 6 of the 2014-15 NFL season right now. So the last thing that anyone should be talking or thinking about is Super Bowl XLIX. We still have about four months before the Super Bowl kicks off and, between now and then, there are a lot of things that have to be sorted out. The NFL doesn’t have any undefeated teams remaining, which means that there’s going to be a lot of jockeying for playoff spots that will go on in the coming months. However, at the moment, it appears as though we can pencil in at least one person for the upcoming Super Bowl. And that person is…Katy Perry.

Last weekend, the pop singer made an appearance on ESPN‘s College GameDay and revealed that she would not pay the NFL to play at the Super Bowl. The NFL has reportedly been thinking about trying to charge acts to perform moving forward, since the Super Bowl spotlight often results in singers and bands selling a ton of albums and songs in the days and weeks after the Super Bowl. But despite this, Perry has reportedly landed this season’s Super Bowl gig and, truthfully, she’s the perfect person to do it.

Now, don’t get me wrong: There are a bunch of different acts that, in theory, I’d love to see play the Super Bowl halftime show. Rap fans have said that they’d like to see Lil Wayne and Drake do the show, and I think that’d be interesting, to say the least. But the NFL has gone out of their way to limit the number of rap acts in recent years, so I don’t expect them to actually allow Weezy and Drizzy to take the Super Bowl stage.

Katy Perry will do the trick, though, because she’s got a laundry list of hit songs. She’s also just edgy enough to make us think that she might do something ridiculous or outlandish during the Super Bowl. And she’s got a song with Juicy J! So if nothing else, we’ll likely get to add one more thing to our “Can you believe that one of the members of Three 6 Mafia was allowed to ______” list that we started back when Three 6 won an Oscar. So Perry has that going for her, at least, right?

At the end of the day, Beyoncé is probably the person that people would most want to see perform at the Super Bowl. But she just performed there less than two years ago, so it’s time to give someone else a shot. And Perry’s appearance on GameDay proved that she can be funny and engaging during a sports-related event. So we think she’ll do a good job at the Super Bowl.

Do you think Katy Perry will put on a good show at the Super Bowl? Let us know.
