Are The Seahawks In Trouble After Losing To The Cowboys On Sunday?

It’s difficult to win back-to-back Super Bowls. It’s why there have been so few NFL teams that have done it—and why the Seattle Seahawks probably shouldn’t be favored to win the Super Bowl this season. It’s also why we shouldn’t be all that surprised after seeing Russell Wilson & Co. lose to the Dallas Cowboys at home on Sunday. But the truth is that we are surprised because Seattle was once again supposed to be the team to beat this season because of their outstanding defense and their progressing offense. And yet, they looked very, er, dare we say average on Sunday and made the Cowboys look like the team to beat in the NFC this season.

After the game, Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin was very open and honest about his team and said that Seattle needs to start taking their approach to the game of football more seriously in the days leading up to games. He also pointed out that the Seahawks aren’t going to be able to get by on raw talent alone anymore.

“We have to quit BS-ing ourselves,” he said. “We’ve got to be real with ourselves. When we get in the meeting room, we’ve got to actually pay attention to things and not blow smoke up our tails that everything’s going to be all right. Things aren’t going right. Pay attention to things that we’re not doing right and correct them.”

The good thing is that the Seahawks have plenty of time to correct the things that they’ve done wrong in games this season. They need to work to protect Wilson better, which is something they struggled with on Sunday. They need to find ways to get guys like Baldwin the ball. They need to control the ball better than they have (they only had the ball for about 22 minutes yesterday, while the Cowboys had it for more than 37 minutes). And they need to stop thinking that last year’s Super Bowl run has anything to do with this season.

At 3-2, the Seahawks are still in good shape and will likely still make the playoffs. But they’re not going to run through the rest of the NFL like they did last season. So they need to be prepared to play better in order to beat teams. Otherwise, they’re not going to have any chance of repeating as NFL champions.
