The Bengals Have Raised More Than $1 Million For A Good Cause This Season By Selling Devon Still Jerseys

Even though we’re still not even halfway through the 2014-15 NFL season, the NFL has endured its fair share of negative stories over the course of the last two months. From the Ray Rice elevator video that brought a ton of negative attention upon the league to the Adrian Peterson child abuse case that made people wonder what in the world NFL players are thinking these days, the league hasn’t had many feel-good stories so far this season. But the story surrounding Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still is definitely one of the few that’s made us smile.

Unfortunately, Still’s young daughter has been trying to beat cancer in recent months. Still was actually cut from the Bengals this summer but was later picked up for the team’s practice squad and then promoted to the active roster so that he could get health benefits to help take care of her. But the feel-good story didn’t end there. In addition to giving Still the opportunity to play football this season and help his daughter, the Bengals also started selling his jersey to help benefit pediatric cancer. And as it turns out, they made a huge difference by doing it. Because according to recent reports, the Bengals have sold more than 15,000 jerseys in the last seven or eight weeks, which translates to them raising more than $1 million to help fight cancer. It’s crazy to think just how much the team has been able to do to help Still and others dealing with cancer this season.

Still and his daughter aren’t out of the woods yet. She is still fighting the cancer and Still is still pulling double duty on a regular basis, trying to concentrate on football while simultaneously doing everything he can to get his daughter the treatment she needs. But this season, the NFL needed a story like Still’s to illustrate how NFL players are human, too, and how they go through things just like everyone else. And with a little help from his team, Still has been able to make a big difference in the world. Now let’s just hope that this feel-good story sparks others in the near future.
