Russell Wilson & The Seattle Seahawks Need A Win In The Worst Way Today

The last week or so has not been very good for the Seattle Seahawks. Less than ten days ago, they made the decision to trade away their star wide receiver Percy Harvin to the New York Jets for next to nothing. They will get a draft pick at some point in the near future. But Harvin was supposed to be their No. 1 wide receiver this season and, instead, he’s now playing for another team. Then, a couple days after trading Harvin, Seattle lost in just about the worst way possible to the St. Louis Rams. A fake punt at the end of the game was their undoing, and they left St. Louis with a 3-3 record, dropping them to third place in the tough NFC West. And for the last few days, the team has been dealing with a Bleacher Report story that indicated that several of quarterback Russell Wilson‘s teammates don’t think he’s “black enough.” It’s turned into a real mess for the Seahawks and threatened their ability to repeat as Super Bowl champions this season.

With all of that in mind, Seattle needs a win in the absolute worst way today against the Carolina Panthers. They need their defense to step up and prove that it’s still one of the best in the business. They need their offense to prove that it can survive without Harvin (which shouldn’t be too difficult to do, seeing as how Harvin spent most of his Seahawks’ career on the sidelines with injuries). And they need Wilson to continue to tune out the noise surrounding him right now and lead them to a victory. Otherwise, they’ll drop to 3-4 on the year and put themselves in a very difficult spot. The idea of them missing the NFL Playoffs altogether will become very real all of a sudden.

Don’t get us wrong: There are other NFL teams who need wins today, too. The Chicago Bears need to put their putrid performance against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday in the past and beat the New England Patriots. The Cincinnati Bengals need to get back on track and beat the Baltimore Ravens. And hell, the Panthers could use a win this week, too!

But believe it or not, the Seahawks need a win more than anyone else at the moment, if only to get the NFL analysts and “experts” off their back for a week. The flight from North Carolina to Seattle will be very long if they don’t get a W. So this week’s game is about as close to a “must-win” NFL game as you’ll find at the end of October.
