Why Has Jameis Winston’s Name Been Connected To Yet Another Scandal?

Part of us thinks that Jameis Winston gets a little bit of a bad rap. Sure, he’s brought a lot of his problems on himself. And sure, he’s done some pretty bad things in the past and made some really questionable decisions in his life. But at this point, it feels as though there’s a new scandal involving the Florida State quarterback every other week. Earlier this season, he got into trouble for yelling an offensive phrase at the FSU student union. Then, some people speculated over whether or not he had accepted cash payments in exchange for autograph signing sessions. And now, he finds himself at the center of a bizarre alleged point-shaving scandal that seems to be picking up steam.

According to a site called IBN Sports Wrap, Winston and one of his former high school teammates Chris Rabb—who plays for UAB—came up with a plan to make some quick cash late last month by shaving points during a game. The site claims that Rabb made a $5,500 bet with a bookie on the first half of FSU’s game against Louisville and that Winston then made sure that Rabb won his bet by ensuring that Louisville covered the halftime line. FSU went on to win the game after trailing 21-7 at the half. But the problem that exists is that, if Winston did anything to help Rabb win his bet, he could be in some serious trouble. Point shaving is illegal and is a very serious allegation. So the fact that Winston is even connected to it right now is not a good thing.

The good news for Winston is that it’s going to be very difficult for anyone to prove that he was associated with point shaving. Some of his FSU teammates have already come out and said that he wouldn’t be capable of shaving points, either, because of his will to win. But UAB is launching an investigation into Rabb’s possible connections to gambling. And there’s a chance that Winston’s name could get dragged into the mix, too, because of his friendship with Rabb. And if he is found to be connected to gambling, it could drastically alter his future and be the final straw for him at FSU.

Do you think there’s any truth to these latest rumors surrounding Winston? We hope not. But at this point, after all the trouble that he’s been in, it seems like just about anything is possible.
