Republican Staffer Criticizes Obama Daughters’ Dress, Manners

A Republican staffer is under fire and apologized this week after taking to Facebook to criticize the Obama family following the annual Turkey Pardoning ceremony at the White House, encouraging the girls to “show a little class” and not dressed for “a bar.” Elizabeth Lauten is the director of communications for Rep. Stephen Fincher of Tennessee, and had previously worked for former Rep. Joe Walsh and the Republican National Committee, according to her LinkedIn page.

Sasha, 13, and Malia, 16, appeared at the televised, public ceremony last week, and many media outlets noted that they rolled their eyes as their father, President Barack Obama, made a corny joke.

The Facebook post went viral after a screenshot was tweeted by a reporter at The Root.

Lauten then turned her criticism to the adult Obamas:

Then again, your mother and father don’t respect their opinions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I guess you’re coming up a little short in the ‘good role model’ department.

But on Friday, Lauten issued an apology, though it has since been taken down:

I reacted to an article and quickly judged the two young ladies in a way that I would never have wanted to be judged myself as a teenager. After many hours of prayer, talking to my parents and re-reading my words online, I can see more clearly how hurtful my words were. Please know that these judgmental feelings truly have no pace in my heart. Furthermore, I’d like to apologize to all of those who I have hurt and offended with my words, and pledge to learn and grow (and I assure you I have) from this experience.

What do you think of Lauten’s apology? Let us know in the comments below.
