Should Heat Fans Boo LeBron James During Today’s Cavaliers/Heat Game?

Over the course of the last four years, LeBron James has done a lot of really good things for the Miami Heat and their fans. He’s won them championships. He’s given them a lot to cheer for. And he’s energized a fan base that, prior to LeBron joining the Heat in 2010, was down in the dumps. So at the moment, the Heat fans out there should have nothing but good things to say about LeBron. However, that’s not the case. They’re upset with LeBron for leaving Miami in July to re-join the Cleveland Cavaliers—and they’re planning on letting him know about it today when the Cavs visit Miami to play the Heat in LeBron’s first game back in the 305 since leaving. They’re likely going to boo him relentlessly.

The Heat’s Dwyane Wade doesn’t want them to do it, though. Earlier this week, he told reporters that he’s expecting a mixed reaction from Miami fans. But he also said that he hopes there are more cheers than jeers for LeBron, given what he did for the franchise over the last four years.

“It’s going to be a mixture,” he said. “How I think he should be received is a little bit different. The man helped take us to places we’ve only been once before he got here. So I think he should be received very well for that at the start of the game. And then, when the game [starts], then do what you’ve got to do.”

Wade has an interesting take and it’s a take that we hope Heat fans share with him. Because while we’re not necessarily against Heat fans booing LeBron—this is sports, after all, and LeBron is no longer a member of the Miami Heat, which makes booing far game—Heat fans can’t ignore what he did for them when he was with them. So while they should boo him a little bit, they should also give him a standing ovation before the game just to let him know that they appreciate what he did for them when he was still with the Heat. It’s the least that they can do for him, especially since today is Christmas, right?

How do you think Heat fans should respond to LeBron James visiting Miami for the first time since leaving in free agency? Cheer? Boo? Let us know and enjoy today’s game.
