Is Los Angeles Going To Get An NFL Team Within The Next Year?

Even though it’s one of the biggest cities in the entire country, Los Angeles doesn’t have an NFL team at the moment. They used to have one back in the 1900s when the Los Angeles Rams represented the L.A. area. But in 1995, Rams ownership decided to pick up and move to St. Louis and, ever since then, L.A. has been without an NFL team. There have been a lot of rumors about NFL teams looking into the idea of moving to Los Angeles over the years. But none of those rumors has ever panned out. Could one NFL team finally be looking to make life in L.A. a reality, though?

Possibly. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Rams—yes, the Rams, the same team that left L.A. 20 years ago—might be moving back to L.A. in 2016, if everything goes according to plan. The Times just revealed that Rams owner Stan Kroenke is planning on building an 80,000-seat NFL stadium in Inglewood, Calif. in the near future. And while he hasn’t definitively revealed whether or not that means the Rams will be playing in that stadium, he also hasn’t ruled out the possibility of it happening. The Rams are going to sign a new year-to-year lease in St. Louis soon and that could mean that it’s only going to be a matter of time before they move back to Los Angeles.

At this point, it’s kind of crazy that L.A. doesn’t have any NFL team. The city isn’t as NFL-crazy as some other cities out there, and it doesn’t appear as though Los Angeles residents are in any real rush to get a team to L.A. But for the NFL, you’d think that having a team in a city like L.A. would be essential. If nothing else, it’d show that the NFL covers all bases and has teams in just about every single major city in the U.S. And while we don’t necessarily want to see the city of St. Louis lose its team, we think that it makes too much sense for the city of L.A. to somehow, someway get its hands on an NFL franchise. So we won’t be surprised at all if Kroenke ends up moving the Rams to L.A.
