Jay Z Signs Boxer Andre Ward To Roc Nation Sports
In arguably the biggest news to come out of Roc Nation Sports’ boxing division since its inception, Jay Z has staged his biggest coup by signing the recognized #2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Andre Ward, to his promotion. Ward, who sports an unbeaten record of 27-0 with 14 knockouts, has been in the midst of a contract dispute with the late Dan Goossen‘s promotional company and hasn’t fought since November of 2013.
Highly regarded as the man who will become boxing’s best once Floyd Mayweather decides to hang up the gloves, Ward needed a high profile move to give his career a boost. Signing with Roc Nation should do just that.
“We have signed Andre Ward and it’s something we’re very excited about,” David Itskowitch, chief operating officer of Roc Nation Sports’ boxing division, told ESPN.com. “It’s just the beginning for us but it’s a game-changer. He’s one of the best fighters in the world. Everything is coming together for us. On the same day we are having our first event, at Madison Square Garden, we are announcing our first really huge signing.”
Who Ward will fight has yet to be determined but things are already looking up for Ward and Roc Nation Sports.
