Jon Jones’ First Interview Since Failed Drug Test: “I’m Not A Cocaine Addict”

Submitted by on January 21, 2015 – 9:01 pm2 Comments

In his first interview since failing a drug test which detected benzoylecgonine, the primary metabolite of cocaine, in his system, Jon Jones addressed the situation and his usage of cocaine over the years. Jones, the recognized #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and current UFC light heavyweight champion, was fined $25k for the drug test but did not receive any other disciplinary action.

In the interview with Fox Sports, Jones apologized for his actions and said that there was no excuse for his mistake. He admitted that he has used cocaine in the past and this recent incident was at a party. But he stated that he did not use any drugs since the December test before his January fight with Daniel Cormier (which he won by unanimous decision). He was adamant that he is not an addict and the 24 hour visit to rehab was to ensure the UFC and those around him that he didn’t have a problem. He apologized for letting his fans down but said that he cannot say he won’t have a drink here and there.
