Bill Belichick Drops My Cousin Vinny Reference In Deflategate Denial
Amidst a staunch denial of any wrongdoing, Patriots coach Bill Belichick made a reference to Marisa Tomei‘s Oscar-winning performance in My Cousin Vinny, the 1992 comedy.
“I’m embarrassed by the amount of time I’ve had to put into this relative to the other important challenge in front of us,” Belichick stated at an unplanned press conference today at Gillette Stadium. “I’m not a scientist. I’m not an expert in footballs. I’m not an expert in football measurements. I’m just telling you what I know. I would not say I’m Mona Lisa Vito of the football world as she was to the car expertise area.”
In the film, Vito is the highly-coiffed daughter of a family of auto mechanics. Her hard-won savant-like knowledge of cars becomes pivotal in her boyfriend’s (Joe Pesci) defense of his cousin in a Southern small-town murder trial.
The incongruous reference made the film’s title, the character name, and Tomei’s name all trend on social media on Saturday.
Maybe Belichick is watching his favorite movies to cheer himself up while dealing with this situation?
