Should Richard Sherman Skip The Super Bowl If His Girlfriend Gives Birth To Their First Child On Sunday?

On Sunday, Richard Sherman is going to play in one of the biggest football games of his life when he takes the field for the Seattle Seahawks during Super Bowl XLIX. Er, or is he?

Sherman’s girlfriend Ashley Moss is pregnant—very pregnant—right now and set to give birth to the couple’s first child in the coming days. And because of this, there’s a good chance that Moss could go into labor on Sunday. So earlier this week, Sherman was asked about the possibility of that happening and asked whether or not he’d be open to the idea of skipping the Super Bowl in order to witness the birth of his baby. He stopped short of saying that he would skip the game, but he didn’t say exactly what he’d do if he was forced to make the decision.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” he revealed during a media session, before emphasizing the fact that the baby isn’t due until after the Super Bowl. “We’re not thinking about the possibility.”

It sounds like Sherman and Moss are thinking about what Sherman would do if Moss went into labor before the big game, though. And it sounds like a decision has been made. Moss did an interview with KING 5 News on Thursday and said that Sherman is going to play in the game, regardless of whether or not she’s giving birth while it goes on.

“I told him to play the game,” she said. “It’ll be a good story to tell. His son and I will be sitting there, watching [and] cheering him on the whole game and, soon as it’s over, he can be there.”

Still, it seems like plans could change if, say, Moss goes into labor on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday. Surely, Sherman would go to the hospital then, right? But what if it prevents him from making it back to the field in time for the start of the game? Would he really skip it?

We can’t answer any of those questions, nor can we speculate about what we would do if we were Sherman. We’ve never been in his position before and been forced to choose between playing in a Super Bowl and witnessing the birth of our child. And hopefully, Sherman won’t have to choose between those two things, either.

What would you do if you were in his position?
