Floyd Mayweather: “Hopefully We Can Make The Fight Happen”

We’re in the middle of February and the proposed showdown between Floyd Mayeather and Manny Pacquiao has yet to be signed, sealed or delivered. There still is hope that the two will come to terms to make the megafight happen in May. However, as the time ticks away, it’s looking less and less likely that the fight will happen.

At the NBA All Star game, Mayweather addressed the situation during a television interview and maintained that nothing has been signed as of yet but he still holds out hope that the fight will take place.

“No, that’s not true,” Mayweather said when asked during TNT’s broadcast whether or not the fight has been signed to take place. “Um, I haven’t signed yet, and he hasn’t signed yet, you know.

“It’s just been speculations and rumors. But hopefully we can make the fight happen.”

Hopefully? A fight of this magnitude will need to be confirmed soon in order for the press tour to begin. With Mayweather remaining steadfast on a May 3rd fight date, that doesn’t give much time for Mayweather and Pacquiao to get their ducks in order for the fight. Not to say that it hasn’t been done before, but Mayweather typically likes a few months in order to give the fight a proper build. Pacquiao, however, isn’t locked in for any fight date and, in the event the Mayweather fight falls through, he can choose another opponent for a later date.

While the world waits, we have to wonder if either party is committed to making this fight happen. They both say that they are, but we have yet to see this fight materialize in all the years that it has been discussed.
