VIDEO: Lady Gaga Wins The Oscars With Sound Of Music Medley
The evening in general may have received mixed reviews for the performance of host Neil Patrick Harris, but everyone was raving about Lady Gaga‘s appearance at the Academy Awards last night. The “Born This Way” singer performed a medley of songs from the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The Sounds of Music, and received an onstage hug from Julie Andrews, the film version’s star.
Gaga has been channeling her jazz standard abilities a lot lately. This past year, she recorded an album of jazz duets with Tony Bennett, taking home a Grammy for the effort.
Last night’s performance further proved that she has an amazing set of vocals, with no crazy costumes or set pieces needed to blow away an audience. The performance quickly became the most tweeted-about moments of the night.
Other notable moments included Patricia Arquette‘s call for gender equality as she accepted the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and multiple mentions of dealing with mental health and suicide from the winners of Best Documentary Short and Best Adapted Screenplay. Also, NPH earned big laughs for a bit performed in his underwear, inspired by Best Picture winner Birdman.
