Earlier this week, the Chicago Bulls revealed that Derrick Rose was going to need to undergo surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus, and everyone in Chicago let out a collective sigh. Over the course of the last few years, Rose has been plagued by one injury after another. And the thought was that this injury might be the one to do him in. They didn’t doubt his ability to bounce back. After all, he’s bounced back several times before. But this season, Rose has looked very timid at times. So a lot of people thought that Rose’s best days were probably behind him, especially in light of his latest injury.

There’s some good news coming out of Chicago now, though. Specifically, news about how Rose’s injury isn’t as bad as some people thought it was. He had successful surgery on Friday and, according to Bulls general manager Gar Forman, the surgery showed that the injury is relatively minor compared to some of the other injuries Rose has sustained.

“There’s the old saying that surgery’s minor as long as it’s on somebody else,” he said. “But in this case, in comparison to what Derrick’s had to go through the last several years, this surgery really was minor.”

It’s a good thing, too. Without Rose, the Bulls had next to no chance of making a deep run in the playoffs. They simply wouldn’t have the firepower to keep up with teams like the Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors, and, of course, Cleveland Cavaliers. But with Rose, the Bulls will once again be a title contender. They still might struggle a bit when Rose returns to the lineup, since he’s going to have to miss between four and six weeks while rehabbing his knee. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for the Bulls. And that light is something that’s going to give the Bulls and their fans hope this season. It’s the best possible scenario for them, and even if you’re not a fan of the Bulls, it’s good to see that Rose’s injury isn’t going to keep him out for more than a month or so.
