Is Jameis Winston’s Early Meeting With The Buccaneers An Indication That Tampa Bay Is Going To Draft Him?

The 2015 NFL Draft is still more than two months away. And because the 2015 NFL Combine just took place late last month, there aren’t many NFL teams who are meeting with draft prospects at this time. That is, except for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s kind of crazy for them to be doing it so early, but according to reports out of Florida, the Bucs have been meeting with Jameis Winston all day today. Apparently, the Bucs are going to take a good, long look at Winston before they think about drafting him—and they’re starting that process by going straight to the source today in order to do their homework on him.

So why in the world are they meeting with Winston so long before the draft? No one knows for sure. But if we had to guess, it’s probably because Winston comes with aton of baggage. There have been questions surrounding his behavior both on and off the football field for the last two years, and the thought is that whoever drafts Winston is going to have to be 100 percent sure that he’s going to stay out of trouble before selecting him. So the Bucs are doing their due diligence by meeting with Winston now and finding out everything that they can about him before doing some background checks on him. So while it’s surprising to see them meeting with him so early on in the draft process, it’s not a shock that they’d want to get some extra time with him, given his history.

It doesn’t mean that the Bucs are definitely going to draft Winston. In fact, if they find out something they don’t like about him now, it could mean that they go in a different direction in the draft or try to trade away the top spot in the draft. But either way, it’s good to see that they’re taking the right approach to finding out more about Winston and doing what they can to make sure that they have all the information they need to make an informed decision with the No. 1 pick in the draft.

What do you think about the Buccaneers meeting with Winston more than two months before the draft? Is it a good sign or a bad sign for him?
