Does Jimmy Graham Make The Seahawks The Favorite To Win The Super Bowl Next Season?

The Seattle Seahawks were obviously a very good team last season. They made a run all the way to Super Bowl XLIX and came within just one yard of winning their second straight NFL title. In fact, you could argue that, if they’d given the football to Marshawn Lynch on their final offensive play of the game instead of allowing Russell Wilson to throw a pass that got intercepted, we could be talking about them as being a possible dynasty right now. But they came up just short of winning the Super Bowl. So they’re trying to figure out how to improve this offseason and making some moves to put themselves in a better position to win next year.

They took a huge step towards doing that yesterday by working out a big trade with the New Orleans Saints. The Seahawks agreed to deal their starting center Max Unger and a first-round draft pick in exchange for Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham and a fourth-round pick. The trade caused many NFL fans and analysts to scratch their heads, seeing as how Graham has been such a productive player for the Saints in recent seasons. But it also caused a lot of Seahawks fans to celebrate. Because they now have a tight end who is going to force defenses to cover him.

That presence is something that the Seahawks didn’t have last season. As a result, opposing teams were able to key in on the Seahawks’ run game and prevent running back Marshawn Lynch from being even more productive than he was. But now that Graham is in place, they won’t be able to do that anymore. They’ll have to respect the tight end’s ability to catch passes and that should open up more running lanes for Lynch. It should also make the Seahawks’ offense almost as potent as the Seahawks’ defense, which is scary to even consider.

Does this make the Seahawks the favorites to win the Super Bowl? Probably. It still won’t be easy for them to do it. But Graham is a guy who will make them better and will help them improve on what they did last season.

Do you think Graham will be the difference maker that everyone is expecting him to be?
