Is DeMarco Murray Really Thinking About Signing With The Eagles?

The Dallas Cowboys want to re-sign running back DeMarco Murray to a new contract. He was the heart and soul of their team last season and is largely responsible for all of the success that the Cowboys had. So it’s no surprise to hear that Dallas wants him back for next year. But unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like the Cowboys are willing to give Murray the kind of contract that he’s looking for at the moment. So according to numerous reports, he’s fielding offers from teams like the Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Philadelphia Eagles. ESPN is even reporting that Murray may have reached out to the Eagles directly to gauge their interest in him.

But does he really want to sign with them? It’s kind of unclear right now. On the one hand, the Eagles have an opening at the starting running back position because of the trade that they made involving LeSean McCoy recently. They also have the cap space to give Murray the kind of money he wants. And their head coach Chip Kelly runs a spread offense that would be perfect for Murray. Oh, and as if all of that wasn’t enough, Philly also just made a trade for quarterback Sam Bradford, who was Murray’s former teammate/roommate at the University of Oklahoma. So Philly would be a good fit for him.

At the same time, the Eagles are the Cowboys’ rival. So if he did decide to leave Dallas for Philadelphia, he would likely become Public Enemy No. 1 in Texas. He would also be turning his back on his Cowboys teammates in order to go to a different team in the NFC East. So before he leaves Dallas, he’s going to need to think long and hard about the pros and cons of signing with a team like the Eagles. He might get good money for doing it and he might put himself into a position to continue winning, but he might also turn himself into a villain and make a lot of his biggest fans hate him.

Do you think Murray is going to be willing to do that? Or do you think he is going to stay put and play for the Cowboys next season?
